Retrieval of aerosol optical depth using UV−B MFRSR at Storm Peak Laboratory

چکیده

A retrieval of aerosol optical depth is performed utilizing six spectral values of of ultraviolet radiation data obtained during a field experiment from 12−14 Feb. 2001 to the Storm Peak Laboratory (SPL.) Data was collected by the USDA UV−B multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) on top of Mt. Werner over a period of ten hours (1400−0000 UTC) and is publicly available at the USDA UV−B website. Total optical depth is calculated via linear regression of Langley diagram parameters, and aerosol optical depth is calculated by removing computed Rayleigh and ozone optical depths.

Comparison of column ozone retrievals by use of an UV multifilter rotating shadow-band radiometer with those from Brewer and Dobson spectrophotometers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture UV-B Monitoring Program measures ultraviolet light at seven wavelengths from 300 to 368 nm with an ultraviolet multifilter rotating shadow-band radiometer (UV-MFRSR) at 25 sites across the United States, including Mauna Loa, Hawaii. Column ozone has been retrieved under all-sky conditions near Boulder, Colorado (40.177 degrees N, 105.276 degrees W), from globa...

Multi-Spectral Atmospheric Column Extinction Analysis of Multi-Filter Rotating Shadowband Radiometer Measurements

MACE Analysis of MFRSR Multi-spectral Atmospheric Column Extinction (MACE) analysis of multi-filter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) measurements yield detailed time series information on the variations of the column amounts of atmospheric NO2 and ozone and of aerosol optical depth, including the effective particle size and variance of the aerosol size distribution. Retrieval of such deta...

Retrieval of aerosol single scattering albedo at ultraviolet wavelengths at the T1 site during MILAGRO

Surface measurements of direct and diffuse voltages at UV wavelengths were made at the T1 site during the MILAGRO (Megacity Initiative: Local and Global Research Observations) field campaign in March 2006, using a multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer (UV-MFRSR). We used the MFRSR data, together with measurements from a co-located CIMEL Sun photometer at the site operating as part of the A...

Comparison of Algorithms in the Processing of a MFRSR Network

In this paper, we explore the performance of a novel NASA-GISS algorithm which is used to calibrate and extract aerosol optical depth (AOD) from a portable Multi-filter Shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) instrument in comparison to the standard Langley regression algorithm. We show that the NASA-GISS algorithm results has stable calibration coefficients in comparison to those obtained using the conv...

Estimating Aerosol Absorption, Optical Depth, and Vertical Extent Using Satellite Measurements in the UV/Blue Spectral Domain

Until recently, the retrieval of aerosol absorption properties from space seemed so prone to error as to be almost worthless. The principal difficulty being that if the aerosol optical depth is relatively low, then the signal measured at the satellite is proportional to ωτP(θ), where ω is the singlescattering albedo, τ is the optical depth and θ is the scattering angle. It is, therefore, imposs...
